Anxiety in Children
Anxiety disorders are more common in children and adolescents than attention deficit disorder.
There are many diagnoses that can cause anxiety including panic disorder, social phobia, post-traumatic stress disorder, separation anxiety disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, Avoidant disorder and obsessive compulsive disorders. Many situational problems can trigger anxiety as well including depression, abuse, substance problems, and other stressors.
Surprisingly children often need doses higher than adults. This is because their liver “metabolizes” (chemically breaks down) medications more rapidly than adults do.
