- Are These The Right Medications For The BPD?
QUESTION:
Dear Dr. Heller,
I believe that I have Borderline Personality Disorder. I read all about it on your Website and it is me exactly. I have been going to a Psychologist and Psychiatrist since December of last year when I practically had a breakdown. I have been taking Paxil since January and recently I have been taking Risperdal. Do you think that these are the right medications for this disorder? Please get back to me ASAP because I am concerned.
ANSWER:
Paxil can work for the inappropriate moodiness, emptiness, and chronic anger, but Prozac has been far more effective in my experience. Risperdal seems to only work as needed. It’s as if taking the medication helps and also stopping it helps. If I’m going to prescribe a daily antipsychotic medication, Seroquel is the one I usually prescribe. In the BPD section are many documents that explain the medication regimen I prescribe and why.
