Its commonly treated with anti-epilepsy medications and benzodiazepine tranquilizers like Klonopin.A common cause of the restless leg syndrome is iron deficiency – which is common in women your age. Question: Dear Doctor,I’m a 49 yr. old female that has had panic disorder for almost 15 yrs. I was on 6mg. Xanax and 100mg. of Zoloft for about 10yrs. I quit cold turkey 14 months ago. It was extremely difficult and I wouldn’t recommend quitting that way. But I have had an incident happen that has brought back some of the anxiety and was wondering what if anything I could take to help ease the anxiety without having to worry about becoming addicted to something again. My Dr. doesn’t seem to understand panic anxiety disorder that much, so I would love your opinion.Thank you. Dr. Heller’s Answer: Panic disorder is a recurrent problem, its unlikely to go away completely. While some patients respond to alternative medicine treatments such as acupuncture, most need medication. The high SSRI dose (Zoloft 100mg) is an excellent choice and usually prevents most attacks after a few months. Xanax is effective for the attacks but can be very addicting.You should see a physician knowledgeable about panic disorder, whether that physician is a psychiatrist, GYN, Family Physician or an Internist. He is 60 yrs. old and states he’s becoming extremely frustrated over the situation and we’re looking for any assistance you could provide.Thank you. 1) Depression.2) B12 deficiency. Levels below 500 can cause a deficiency state. Shots are no longer necessary. I usually start my patients with B12 3000ug daily x 1 month, 2000ug daily x 1 month, then 1000ug daily.3) Iron deficiency – which can easily be checked with blood tests (CBC, ferritin, iron, TIBC).4) Co Q10 deficiency – particularly in individuals taking cholesterol lowering medications called “statins.” 100mg daily has helped many of my patients.5) Low thyroid (easily checked on a blood test).6) Carotid artery blockages – can be checked by a physical examination and carotid ultrasound.7) Hypoxemia (low blood oxygen) from asthma or heart disease.8) Sleep disturbances, especially sleep apnea.

However the drug seems to have affected our sex life in a big way. She claims to have a severe lack of hormones as well as the inability to have an orgasm. What can be done about this? Any advice would be helpful. Dr. Heller’s Answer: She doesnt have a lack of hormones from the Paxil. Lack of orgasms can be a huge problem. The most effective treatments are ginkgo biloba 120-240mg daily and/or the addition of Wellbutrin to the regimen.
