CAN ADHD BE TREATED IN HEART PATIENTS? 
Question: I am hoping you can assist me in answering this question. I have been researching for quite some time with no success. I am looking for a medication that is safe for a heart patient with Adult ADHD. This patient is a white male 60 years old. He has had two open heart bypass surgeries. As of now his ADHD is not being treated, therefore he is suffering a lot of the out come… Thank you so much !!! Dr. Heller’s Answer: If the post bypass stress test shows no active disease a stimulant can be tried. The best option would likely be Strattera, which is a non stimulant. This can raise the pulse and blood pressure a few points, which will require monitoring, but overall it would be safer than stimulants and safer overall than the stress of not treating the ADHD. If he gets depressed from not treating his ADHD, his risk of a heart attack goes up 600%.
