Can You Help Me In Australia?

Can You Help Me In Australia?

    QUESTION:

    Hi,

I am married to a man who according to the criteria almost certainly suffers from BPD. I live in Australia in a fairly small city and have been unable to find anybody who can help. My husband has seen several psychiatrists once or twice but has never continued or gained anything from these visits. All they have been able to tell me after such a short amount of time is that he’s definitely depressed and possibly bi-polar.

After reading the criteria on your web site, I got goosebumps because it describes my husband almost exactly, I know I have no business diagnosing by Internet but I live with this man and generally find myself involved in things that blow my mind, he is not normal and he is getting worse and I suspect that its only a matter of time before my well educated ( he earns six figures), loving father and husband, finds himself in jail and totally bankrupt.

In my opinion his behaviour is becoming more self destructive as time goes by, and frankly I can’t imagine that it could get much worse without him having to face some extreme consequences. We have 4 young children and a marriage that is foundering, please tell me that there is something we can do.

    ANSWER:

Unfortunately the medical profession tends to be very slow to respond to new literature and ideas. A good caring, open minded, patient-oriented physician can take the information and make a difference for you, your husband and your family.

The entire Borderline Personality Disorder section should be of enormous use, particularly How I Treat the BPD and Why and my Article for Primary Care Physicians along with its update. The official criteria are available, along with FAQ’s (frequently asked questions) and many of the actual literature reports.
