HOW DO I TRUST MY JUDGMENT WHEN IT KEEPS CHANGING? Ask The Doctor Dr. Leland Heller Biological Unhappiness HOW DO I TRUST MY JUDGMENT WHEN IT KEEPS CHANGING? Question: Does anyone know what to do when I, as a BPD individual, feel very strongly about a man who loves me, and then the next day, I think he is all wrong for me? How do I know which one of my opinions to trust? They are both equally strong and intense opinions. I feel like I am on a roller coaster, and I bet he does, too. Any ideas? What do I do? How do I trust my judgment when it keeps changing? Thank you! Dr. Heller’s Answer: If youre feeling peaceful, kind and loving, you can trust your judgment. If you arent, you cant. Whenever someone with the BPD is upset it is impossible for that individual to make that interpretation. Thats why its so important to stop the chronic anger and unprovoked mood swings and to treat all dysphoria episodes medically. The BPD is a disease where the brains “trapped, cornered, wounded animal” instinct area is broken. When you are perceiving the world from that perspective you cant interpret reality correctly, no matter how “real” it seems. Once the episode is over you can then try to find out whats real and what wasnt. You may need a therapists help to understand what was real and what was an illusion, but the importance of medication cannot be overemphasized. 1999 2000 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 Ask the Doctor Home MENU: Screening Test “Ask the Doctor” (BPD)Borderline Personality Disorder Annual Updates Biological Unhappiness Disorders & Official Criteria Dr. Heller’s C.V. & Picture How Dr. Heller Got Involved If You Want to See Dr. Heller as a Patient Testimonials Table of Contents for the Book ‘Biological Unhappiness’ How to Order “Life at the Border” Why Read ‘Biological Unhappiness’?
