SHOULD MY PREGNANT WIFE RESUME PAXIL? 
Question: My wife stopped Paxil 1 month from conception. She is now 13 -14 weeks. She is having a lot of serious anxiety now. She is considering abortion because of possible birth defects if she goes back on Paxil. She also can have a higher heart rate…does not sleep well…worries about minor things, i.e. making a mountain out of a mole hill.Do you think the risks of taking Paxil in this case are justified?Thank you. Dr. Heller’s Answer: Like Prozac, Paxil has a very low risk of problems except at extremely high doses. If her symptoms were under control with the Paxil, the risk is low of taking Paxil while pregnant – especially later on in the pregnancy. There are risks to the baby of untreated panic and depression in the mother.
