When she was 8 wks old, she slid out of her pram and fell flat on the ground hitting the back of her head. Could this fall contribute to BPD? WHAT IS HAPPENING TO MY 5 YEAR OLD SON? Ask The Doctor Dr. Leland Heller Biological Unhappiness WHAT IS HAPPENING TO MY 5 YEAR OLD SON? Question: My son is on trials of different meds for anxiety/ADHD.  They are not 100%, and was on Remeron when he started having really bad dreams but seemed to not wake up until we were talking to him for 2-3 minutes–looked right at dad and kept calling him mom.  We stopped the Remeron but it continued.  Now we are trying BuSpar and dreams-whatever, started up again. It’s really scary because his eyes are wide open but he seems to be dreaming??? Can these meds cause this problem to continue even if he’s not on them??  Also his pupils seem dilated a lot of the time.  What could this be??  He is 5 years old. Question: Dr. Heller: When I read the definition of what BPD is, I wanted to tell you that our daughter (now 23) displayed the symptoms when she was between the ages of 3-4.  She still displays the same symptoms.  Was officially diagnosed at age 14 after being in psych. hospital for 11 days in ’85.  No groups to help: hosp. put her on 5 different medicines at same time; sent her home for us to cope and wished us well: very sad statement.  Weaned her off drugs and went from there.  She is aware of being “different” but tries to be very responsible for her actions.  Tried vitamin therapy by infusion and started to respond, but then ran off to get married at 18.  So now her husband tries to deal with her and it’s really rough: do not know how this will end up, but I keep reading and researching.  Hopefully, I can reason with her to listen. Years before, after finding out diagnosis, stepped back to take a good look at my husband and could finally have answers to why he acts the way he does: grew up in Brooklyn N.Y.  No wonder so crazed out talk about upheaval supreme.  Anyway, just wanted to pass thoughts on: if suicide can be detected in children at an early age, why not BPD?  Everybody is different and everything overlaps so much.  Thanks. Dr. Heller’s Answer: A severe childhood depression with psychotic features can mimic BPD.  The most likely explanation was childhood onset bipolar disorder (http://pks.947.myftpupload.com/BiPlrKid.htm) . Question: Dear Sir,I have a 4 year old daughter that we just started on Concerta on the 11 of October.  My question: is it safe for the 4 year old?  I have noticed some changes in her daily routine.  We are a military family so I am just hoping that her diagnosis gets looked at–instead of just treating and releasing.  She was tested when she was 3 and then diagnosed.  We didn’t need meds at that time.  Since then she has been zoning and acting out at school.  She was diagnosed with ODD, Hypotonia and ADHD all during this visit.Thanks. Question: How does one heal from a devastating childhood to a nightmare of a marriage?  I am a 36 year old woman that has now come into realization that I have not lived under normal circumstances.  I am a loving person that now trusts no one!  I have three beautiful daughters and I wanted every one.  I have been despised by my mother and considered stupid for having my children, to the point that my mother not only resents the girls, but she would love nothing more than for me to lose my daughters.  I am battling with a psychopathic ex-husband that has teamed up with my mother in order for me to lose my babies.I am a college student trying to better myself, although I have been told that it is not possible to do this with three children.  If there is any suggestion I will be grateful.  Furthermore, I may not be a doctor, but I can read and this is what these people are.Thank you for your time. Dr. Heller’s Answer: There are 5 things that should be done…1)  See a good therapist ASAP!  This will help in many ways, the most important ones are determining what is real and what isn’t and learning how to cope with your situation.
