WHY ARE ZOLOFT AND PAXIL MAKING ME ANGRY? 
Question: Hello,I am trying to find out some things about Paxil and Zoloft. My boyfriend has been on Paxil for about 2 months. Before that he was on Zoloft for about 6 months, and went off it because he didnt like the way it made him feel. To make a long story short: both medications are bringing out anger. He never used to show signs of rage and anger, and now I am actually afraid that if we are in public and someone says the wrong thing, he will punch them. He isnt as depressed as he used to be, but now he is pent up, and sometimes acting like a jerk (never to me, but to strangers)—HELP!! I have heard that SSRIS can have this effect. Does that mean he should take something to counteract the anger, or possibly is on the wrong medicine? Thanks. Dr. Heller’s Answer: The genetic cognitive generalized anxiety disorder is usually the culprit. Its an elevated serotonin (S1A) receptor thats increased by SSRI medications like Paxil and Zoloft. This increased anxiety can trigger anger, particularly in those with the borderline personality disorder although there are other possibilities such as worsening of bipolar disorder.
