Question: I have a 6 year old son who is ADHD. Ritalin makes him violent. What else can we do? No punishment works. Teachers are getting upset and we dont know what else to do. Dr. Heller’s Answer: He’s almost certainly depressed. 30% of ADHD kids are depressed. If depressed and he’s switched to Adderall, he will do fine until it wears off, then he’ll be out of control later in the day. Treating the depression is extremely important.
